Table mat, racks & pouches
A practical order for building an American Mah Jongg table: when the mat matters, why four racks change the game, and when a pouch or soft case is enough — linked to real Accessories SKUs, not invented bundles.

In one line
Tiles → racks → mat → rack carry → optional extras
Same honesty as Complete your table on Accessories — shop only what you need.
-
Step 1. Confirm you own (or are buying) American tiles
Start with an American ~166-tile set your table will love. Themed PDPs stay tiles-only unless the title truly includes racks or a mat.
-
Step 2. Add four acrylic racks with pushers
The biggest comfort upgrade for privacy and Charleston. Hinged acrylic only — pick a color that matches the set theme. Sold as a set of four on Accessories.
-
Step 3. Add a non-slip table mat if the surface needs it
Protect wood or glass, quiet acrylic, and give racks a stable pad. Skip if you already host on a thick cloth and only need racks.
-
Step 4. Protect racks for travel
Add a rack roll-up or padded sleeve before soft totes or aluminum cases. See the travel guide for soft tote vs aluminum honesty.
-
Step 5. Optional: NMJL holders, wind kit, cloth
Card holders (League card sold separately), dealer/wind/dice kit, and a cleaning cloth finish the table without inventing a bundle.
Tiles first — accessories are optional upgrades
You can shuffle, deal, and play American Mahjong with tiles only on a kitchen table. Racks, a mat, and pouches make the night quieter, kinder to furniture, and easier for private hands. On Ersashopline, themed sets stay tiles (and packaging named in the title); everything below is sold separately on Accessories.
What racks actually do at the table
Four acrylic racks with pushers keep each player’s hand upright and private during the Charleston and the rest of the hand. Pushers help rebuild the wall without scraping tiles across the table. Color options (clear, rose, emerald, scalloped, pastel, smoke) are cosmetic — pick what matches the set theme. These are hinged acrylic, not magnetic wood.
- Clear acrylic racks & pushers
- Rose acrylic racks · Emerald · Scalloped clear
- Lavender pastel · Smoke black · Multicolor

When the table mat comes first
A non-slip table mat protects wood and glass, dampens tile noise, and gives racks a stable pad. Prioritize the mat if you play on a bare dining table or take tiles to friends’ homes with nice furniture. If you already use a thick cloth, racks are usually the better next purchase.
Pouches, roll-ups & soft cases
Once you own racks, protect them in transit. A rack roll-up or padded sleeve is sized for acrylic racks — not for inventing “complete set” storage. Soft zip totes suit tiles; aluminum hard cases are a heavier path when you need crush resistance ( travel guide).
- Pink oxford rack roll-up bag · Navy padded rack sleeve
- Soft cases & totes: Navy leaf soft case · Pink cartoon tote · Blue panda tote
- Aluminum (not ABS foam): Checkered aluminum frame · Rolling aluminum
Full carry row: Table essentials · Soft carry & aluminum.
Complete your table (à la carte)
“Complete the table” means shopping Accessories essentials in order — not a single invented SKU. After racks and mat, most hosts add NMJL card holders (League card sold separately), a dealer/wind/dice kit, and a cloth.
Quick checklist
Build the table honestly
- Tiles ≠ racks ≠ mat — buy each on purpose
- Racks first for privacy; mat first for bare tables
- Pouch/roll-up after you own racks you need to carry
- No magnetic-wood or ABS-foam claims without pack shots
Quick answers
Mat & racks FAQ
Answers share the same facts as the site FAQ where topics
overlap (racks, NMJL, gaps, shipping) — we do not invent a second policy. Prefer gift deep hashes
(#gift-chooser / #gift-notes); bare /gift drops the hash on redirect.
Do your sets include racks and a mat?
No — unless a title and pack shot clearly say otherwise. Our themed sets are sold as tiles (and any packaging named in the title). Acrylic racks with pushers, table mats, card holders, dice, and travel bags are listed separately so we never invent “complete” bundles. Shop Table essentials · racks, mat, and the mat & racks guide. Decision help: how to choose · wipe: FAQ · tile care.
Are acrylic racks sized for American Mahjong tiles?
Yes. Our acrylic rack and pusher sets are designed for standard American Mahjong tiles and sold as a set of four. They are hinged acrylic — we do not invent magnetic claims. Shop essentials · racks or read the mat & racks guide. Wipe care: FAQ · tile care. Magnetic wood stays OEM inquire — never InStock without pack shots (wood racks topic · spares FAQ).
Do you sell spare replacement tiles or magnetic wood racks?
Not listed — OEM inquire or wait for pack shots. We will not invent those SKUs or mark them InStock. Closest buyable path: hinged acrylic racks and a full American ~166-tile set — see Gaps we will not invent, the mat & racks guide, spare topic, magnetic wood topic, or OEM inquire. We never mark magnetic wood InStock without pack shots.
How do I clean and care for acrylic Mahjong tiles?
Dust or wipe acrylic tiles with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth (our parlor microfiber cloth is sold separately under Accessories · care). Avoid abrasives, solvents, and harsh cleaners — we do not invent antibacterial, medical, or lifetime-warranty claims. Cloths, trays, and coasters are table care, not spare replacement tiles (spares FAQ). Finish the table à la carte in the mat & racks · complete table section. Unused returns: returns flow.
Do I need racks and a mat to play American Mahjong?
Tiles alone are enough to deal and play. Most standing American tables use four acrylic racks with pushers so hands stay private and walls push cleanly, plus a non-slip table mat to protect furniture and quiet the click of acrylic. Buy what matches how you host — not every gift needs both on day one. More on the site FAQ · racks included.
Should I buy the mat or the racks first?
If you already play on a cloth or placemat and tiles slide fine, start with four hinged acrylic racks (the biggest comfort upgrade for privacy and Charleston — not magnetic wood). If you play on a bare wood or glass table, add the mat first to protect the surface, then racks when the group is regular. More on the site FAQ · acrylic racks.
What is a rack pouch or sleeve for?
Acrylic racks scratch against each other in a tote. A rack roll-up bag or padded sleeve keeps hinged racks and pushers protected between games. Soft travel cases and pouches hold tiles or small accessories — read each title for what fits; we do not invent “fits all sets” claims. More on the site FAQ · travel carry.
How do I “complete the table” without a fake bundle?
Shop à la carte on Accessories Table essentials: racks, mat, NMJL holders, wind/dice kit, cloth, then soft or aluminum carry. Follow this guide’s order — never invent a “complete with racks” tile SKU. More on the site FAQ · starter table.
How should I wipe acrylic tiles and racks?
Use a dry or slightly damp soft cloth — avoid abrasives and solvents. We do not invent antibacterial, medical, or lifetime-warranty claims. Cloths and trays live under Accessories · care; they are not spare tiles. More on the site FAQ · tile care.
